'Twas the night before New Years - an Eve of sorts. Time to look back on a great year in sports.
On Bonner, on Fortner...Auburn's season so swell. SEC champions: Nice goin', Nell!
Brantley's the best: class 1A baseball. A preview of what we would see in the fall.
Softball: Alabama Christian's leading the way. WIth ace pitcher Lauren Webster racking up K after K.
Another great year in the AISA. With Edgewood (baseball) and Pike Liberal (football) seizing the day.
The Super Six: first trip to Bryant-Denny. T-town showdowns. Fever Country's champions were many.
The Bulldogs, Rebels and Tigers all on top - we learned it. Brantley, Reeltown and Demopolis: come get your trophy... you earned it!
In Troy, the Trojans: once again "Sun Belt supreme." Fourth straight conference title for coach Blakeney's team.
At Huntingdon, Mike Turk's team celebrating with good reason. The Hawks' first-ever trip to the postseason.
Tuskegee's Golden Tigers: a team without peer. A Turkey Day shutout. A bowl win in the Pioneer.
Gene Chizik's 5-0 start, and a thousand yards for Tate. The Auburn Tigers: New Year's Day in the Sunshine State.
Nick Saban's team: one win away from reaching its goal. Thanks to that clutch drive late in the Iron Bowl.
Then against the Gators, the Tide played with aplomb. Look out, Longhorns: California, here they come!
For the first time, that famous trophy would embark... on a trip to Tuscaloosa: Ingram's on the mark.
So from your humble sports reporter, Mr. Shearer: Best wishes from Jeff's Journal for a Happy New Year!
