I should've learned the first time. Trying to predict college football games from St. Petersburg, Florida didn't work out so hot for the Journal.
My first four-loss week (8-4). Still a very respectable 85% for the season (88-15), and now we're back on our home field at 12 East Delano Ave.
So expect more accuracy this week:
ARKANSAS 31, Tulsa 28 - Tulsa (8-0) is undefeated, so that makes this pick an early candidate for the Upset Special.
MISSISSIPPI STATE 17, Kentucky 14 - Taking the Bulldogs, based on Kentucy's suspect defense and State's home-field advantage.
FLORIDA 31, Georgia 28 - How would you like to have seats on the 50 for this epic encounter? The winner goes to Atlanta in December. I like the Gators, just barely.
SOUTH CAROLINA 27, Tennessee 20 - Spurrier drives the nail deeper into the coffin that is Phillip Fulmer's career with the Volunteers.
LSU 38, Tulane 13 - Tulane keeps it close for a half, then Charles Scott goes nuts.
AUBURN 20, Ole Miss 17 - For once, the Tigers preserve their halftime lead, with Tommy Tuberville's tried-and-true formula: defense and the kicking game (assuming the kicking game delivers).
ALABAMA 38, Arkansas State 17 - A happy Homecoming in Tuscaloosa, with backups getting lots of playing time in the second half, while the first-teamers rest up for LSU next week.
TROY 31, Louisiana-Monroe 28 - Even without Jerrel Jernigan, the Trojan Spread still succeeds. New starter Levi Brown looks quite comfortable. Montgomery Academy's Anthony McCall is starting as a redshirt freshman for the Warhawks (receiver).
ALABAMA STATE 27, Alcorn State 20 - Hornets rebound after tough loss in the Magic City Classic.
HUNTINGDON 65, Principia 0 - Lock of the year. Hawks are undefeated. Principia is winless. Buy another box of Tide for all of the uniforms the Hawks will need to wash Saturday night.
FAULKNER 23, W. Virginia Tech 21 - Back-to-back wins for the Eagles? You read it here first.
TUSKEGEE 33, Clark-Atlanta 21 - How 'bout 25 straight for the Golden Tigers? No prob.
There you have it. This dynamite dozen should restore the Journal's "street cred" to our pre-Florida status.
See you next week!
God bless - Jeff
