In honor of the LPGA Navistar Classic in Prattville this weekend, I'm utilizing a golf theme for this week's picks.
The weather at Capitol Hill has been spectacular - like the quality of golf - and the golfers are some of the the most "fan friendly" I've ever been around. Should make for an exciting weekend with 14-year-old phenom Alexis Thompson, a home-schooled 9th-grader from Florida, giving the big names like Lorena Ochoa and Michelle Wie a run for their money.
Except if Alexis wins, she won't be collecting any cash. She's still an amateur. But then again, when it comes to forecasting football games, so am I! On to the SEC picks:
An early start for the Crimson Tide in Lexington. I don't see the Wildcats hanging with Alabama for very long. One concern for the Tide: Kentucky return specialist Derek Locke. If there's one area where Bama has been vulnerable, it's covering kickoffs.
ALABAMA 35, Kentucky 14
We've been callilng it a "September to remember" for the Auburn Tigers. A perfect 4-0 start to the Gene Chizik era. Now the road trips begin. First Tennessee, then Arkansas. I'll take the Tigers in a close one.
AUBURN 28, Tennesse 24
GEORGIA 24, LSU 20
OLE MISS 29, Vanderbilt 17
SOUTH CAROLINA 42, South Carolina State 7
TEXAS A&M 31, Arkansas 24
MISSISSIPPI STATE 17, Georgia Tech 14 - My upset special.
Talk to you next week!
God bless - Jeff
