Winter Anyone?

No more complaining about the lack of cold weather people!  I think all the winter weather lovers are wishing the cold air our way.  We've been talking about it since last week and nothing has changed yet.

GFS_US_850_84 This brings up something interesting about forecasting.  I think everyone knows the longer our you're trying to forecast, the less confidence you can have in that forecast due to the highly variable intricacies of our weather.  However, while we may not be able to tell you exactly what temperature it will be or how much rain will fall, we can give you an idea of what to expect.  The extended range forecast models have been hinting at this cool down to come for almost a week now and each run that comes out and shows this cold air coming can add more confidence to your forecast.

So how cold will it be for this upcoming Arctic blast?  Right now, we're going with the cold air coming Thursday and it will feel like the 30s as it comes in.  Then Friday we never get out of the 30s!  That's cold!  Saturday morning, just sleep in!  Some areas will see teens that morning.

All About Flo-Town!

I had the honor of meeting Florence County Sheriff Kenny Boone today.  Like you, I've heard the nameKennyBoone   many times and have seen the campaign adds on the tube.  Let me just say, what a nice guy!  I really enjoyed talking with him and talking about my old stomping grounds.  Sheriff Boone knew many of my family members up that way and as a matter of fact, my great uncle Tilly gave the Sheriff his very first job at Belk's back in the day.  This isn't an endorsement for Kenny but I just wanted you to know he truly is a nice guy.

I get to speak with another nice guy tomorrow.  Jimmy Gregg is running against Boone in the upcoming Sheriff's election and I grew up with Jimmy's sons.  We lived right down the street from them long, long ago and the have always been "good people".  It's been a while since I've seen Jimmy so I'm eager to shake his hand and catch up.

Good luck to both Gregg and Boone in November!

Since we are having both guys on, it reminds me of one of my pet peeves about media now a days.  Maybe I will share that with you tomorrow.  I'll give you a hint, it's about EQUAL TIME!  More on that tomorrow.

Challenge!!!!!

This here is a challenge!  We have a link, right on the homepage of wmbfnews.com, where you can send us your pictures and/or videos.  A few folks have signed up and they have sent us some wonderful stuff so far.  However, one user in particular takes the most amazing shots and shares them with us often.  These were once again so beautiful, I had to share with you.  The challenge is for you guys to send yours in and see if you can out-do Mikel C. of Surfside.  Bring it!

Good Times...

Our departure date is closing in fast.  They say time flies when you're having fun and we certainly had plenty of fun and this past two and half years definitely flown by.  However, many emails stated that folks seemed to think I had been here for years.  I think that has to do with our dedicated, punctual viewers who tuned in most days so we really got to know each other.  Believe it or not, I am NOT a morning person so I won't miss this schedule but I will miss Today In Alabama.  It was such a great opportunity to be myself and have a little fun while doing what I love.

Back to you!  I can remember a trip down to Elba for a Today In Alabama Tailgate for Friday night football.  Our News Operations Manager, Jeff Harrison told me how great the people were down there and wow was he ever correct!  I must say the Elba Tigers are something special.  My trip to Enterprise was especially touching getting to meet such resiliant folks after a terrible tragedy to their city.  I must say Andalusia was quite a special place too when we were down there for 12 on Tour last year.  I see a common theme here, south Alabama is full of special people.

More memorable moments include the various fundraisers and benefits we were involved with during my time here.  WSFA viewers always turned out BIG and gave BIG.  It was really impressive to see how kind you all were.

Finally, let me say WSFA is a great place.  It was special long before I came and will be special long after I'm gone.  I hope you realize, you the viewer determine what direction the station heads.  Times change, news changes but your input will always be what is most important when it comes to shaping the future of WSFA.  With today's technology, I encourage you to reach out to the station and express your opinions on what you think is news.  I personally would like to see more positive news.  I think many of you do too, but it's up to you to make that happen.

Rob's Radar will be up for a little while so I will try and post a few more times from Myrtle Beach.  I wanted to reply to each email I've gotten over the past week but there are way too many!  Let me take this opportunity to THANK YOU for all your wonderful words.

BEACH BOUND...BABY!

Dsc01730_2 It's official!  The Hatchells are moving to Myrtle Beach!  We are so excited to head back to the Carolinas.  We will be closer to all of our family and I know the grandparents can hardly contain their excitement.  Kelly and I really love the Carolinas, so much we incorporated it into our daughter's name, little Caroline you see there on the left.  As you can see, she's ready to go!

With all that said, let me say we have truly grown to love Central and South Alabama.  Of course, the people are what makes it such a great place.  We have met some wonderful people during our short stint here.  In my profession, I have the honor of meeting more than most and everyone has been so hospitable and gracious.  A couple of places stand out to me outside of Montgomery that I wDsc01856ill talk about in a couple more post before I leave.

Let me also say, Kelly and I really weren't looking to move anytime soon but this opportunity came along and we just had to take it.  It's back home and seriously...it's the beach!  Who could pass that up?  We really have enjoyed our time here and I can't express it all here but I'm going to try over the next couple of days so stay tuned.  I really want to share some things with you here on the blog before I sign off next Wednesday so keep checking back.  Let me take this opportunity to say thank you to the all of you who have emailed me.  Thank you for the kind words and I've enjoyed serving you the past two and a half years.  More to come...
