Tonya's Take

Rolling on the River!

CIMG1629[1] Wow! I just took my first ride on the Harriot II. If you don't already know, that's the new riverboat that sails on the Alabama River. It docks downtown at the Riverfront Pavilion near the Amphitheatre. There are three levels and they used them all the night I sailed. The Capital City Women's Club organized the even that raised money for two charities.

On the first level, there was a band performing. It was a group out of Prattville that played everything from the blues to R&B. And when they played the Electric Slide, everybody hit the dance floor. It was a sea of attractive people in lovely white outfits.

CIMG1618[1] The second floor was where they served the dinner that night. It was scrumptous! The service was excellent and the spirits were flowing. On this deck and the others, the view was absolutely spectacular. And several of the guests took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the evening breeze.

On the top deck, the dancing continued. There was a DJ up there and just as many people CIMG1614[1] were dancing as there were on the first floor. We had a great time for a couple of great causes. If you haven't checked out the Harriot II yet, you are missing a treat. Kudos to the Capital City Women's Club. Keep up the good work... and keep dancing!

Back to Blogging!

It's been a long time, but I'm back! A lot has happened since I last updated this blog. I won't get into ALL of that. Let's just talk about last weekend.

It began with a chance for Montgomery to hear from a great woman. Media giant and mentor Susan Taylor was in town Saturday morning at the ASU Acadome. Taylor is the Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of ESSENCE Magazine. I can't tell you how many times I Susantaylor opened my mother's ESSENCE Magazine and saw that trademark smile and hair. She is just as stunning now as she was back then. But even greater is her inner beauty! And her cause. Check out the website for her national organization and get involved if your heart leads you there.

I had a lot of fun at RSVP Montgomery's Luau at Eastside Grille. The owners there Luau09    make it such a fun and friendly atmosphere that I just can't stay away. My friends  love it too. If you want to find me, check that place. The food's great, the service is top-notch. Stop by and see for yourself!

And finally, look at these beautiful ladies. This is Miss Hillview Terrace 2009 and her Hillview09 court. I had the pleasure of being the emcee for this event. It was so much fun talking to all of the contestants, their families and the staff at Hillview including the director, Bobby Stephenson. A lovely bunch of people. I certainly hope to be invited back next year.

Check back often. I'll be busy over the next few days. I'll take you right along with me with every new entry.

Book Bunch Bonus

ShackThe Book Bunch has done it again! We have chosen a book that will absolutely make you think, give you a lot to talk about, and hopefully raise your spirits. One reviewer says "this book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan's Pilgrims's Progress did for his. It's that good". But don't take their word for it. Read "The Shack" by William Paul Young for yourself and come to our next meeting on November 20th.

We'd be more than happy to have you join us. We have soooo much Bb1_4 FUN!  There are readers of all kinds here and we all enjoy the fellowship and conversation(which is not always about the book we're reading). At our last meeting at Eastside Grille, we made so much noise and had so much fun that we actually felt compelled to apologize to the other people sitting around us. We couldn't help ourselves. The food was fantastic, the book was a real page-turner, and the people who attended the meeting were just delightful.

Bb2_2 So if you want to spend the evening talking about a wonderful book, eating some delicious food(which includes these yummy chocolate treats that are to-die-for!!), and meeting some really nice people... come join us. And bring a friend! That makes it even more enjoyable. See you soon!
